20130914 Physical Science test about Coffee
Name: Tracy Date (of experiment): 14/9/2013
Title: To investigate the effecting of cooling rate by the mike.
Introduction: The target of the experiment is to figure out how does mike effecting the cooling rate of coffee in the same environment and condition.
Question: Should Mr. Doyle put milk in his coffee or just a cup of black coffee? Does milk influence the speed of coffee cooling?
Prediction: I think the milk will be influence coffee because if I add the mike into the coffee. The volume will be definitely increase, then I thought high temperature can release more heat than low volume, so the coffee with milk has the smaller cool rate than the coffee without milk.
Equipment: Same volume of bottle of beaker. Two thermometers、same volume of mike and coffee. A stopwatch.
Procedure
1: Add 30g instant coffee into each of breaker, and then add 200ml water into the breakers.
2: Use stirrers to dissolve the coffee.
3 20cm³milk into one breaker, then use stirrers to dissolve the coffee
4:Use two same thermometers to measure the temperature of two original breakers of hot coffee, then record the first data.
5: Use the stopwatch to record the temperature by each three minutes.
Conclusion: According to the graph, we can see the temperature of the coffee within the milk is higher than black coffee. The coffee within milk obviously cool slowly than the black coffee and High temperature will be losing the heat easily and the cool rate of the low temperature is small. They are losing heat energy to the environment Heat energy travels from high to low. So the temperature is a factor to impact the cool rate. Their temperature difference is not very big their maximum number will not over 4.
We can see from the graph the able the figure that the coffee with the milk has the higher temperature than the black coffee
My prediction was correct. My hypothesis was validated. We discovered that the coffee within the milk have the higher temperature than the coffee without milk during nine minutes.
Risk assessment: What are the safety issue that need to be considered?
1. When we try pour away the water into the bottle,we need be carefully and slowly to pour the water because the temperature is very high and it can hurt our skin if the water is spilling.
2. When we use the thermometer and we need be grip it. If the thermometer is dropped on the floor the glass will hurt the people and also the liquid include the poison substance.
3. We need make sure the glass bottles are not close to the corner or edge of the table. The glass is also very harmful to the people.
4. When is experiment is going to don’t all sit close to the table except the people who grip the thermometer.
Object want to get to equilibrium with the environment.
Rate of change of temperature of an object is proportional to the difference between its own temperature and the surrounding (ambient) Temperature.
Discussion: When I do the experiment first I ask my partners to help me add the coffee at the same and use the stopwatch. At the beginning the temperature decrease very fast. Gradually they regularly decrease by the minute the coffee add mike always have the higher temperature than the coffee. It seems like high temperature cool faster than low temperature.
STR: I think the low temperature has the good stability to conserve. So we have the refrigerator because in the refrigerator, the temperature is pretty low and we always put the thing into the refrigerator.
Also the solar energy is good example in our life. As we all know the sun have infinite energy. We know that high temperature can spread much heat, so we can use the heat that sun spread to improve the technology.
